Leandra Hussey's equine paintings and sculptures reflect her background growing up in the rich farmlands of Northern California, Mostly self taught she began drawing, painting and sculpting at a young age.
"My favorite subject to paint and sculpt is the horse. I have loved and owned horses all my life and love to create pieces that honor their beauty, kindness, spirit and majesty. I find Arabian Andalusian and Friesian horses my favorite breeds, however, any horse makes a beautiful subject." Leandra does her own photography and spends time with each of her subjects to get to know their spirit and personalities.
Having created a number of pieces in High School and College, Leandra left her passion for art behind for some years for work and travel. After working on the illustrations for the "Art of Sexual Ecstasy" by Margo Anand, she found herself longing to create again. She found a private tutor Thomas Wolfe, whom she studied under for two years. After moving to New Mexico, she continued to perfect her technical skills studying under artist and teacher Louis Maestas
Leandra has created a Native American series of paintings in addition to her Equine paintings, and done a number of private commissions. Her subjects include human portraits, animal portraits and floral.
